How does the Food Lion plan work?Kroger and Food Lion like loyal customers. To promote loyalty and to be good neighbors, they provide a program whereby they return a small percentage of your business to your favorite charity, in our case, to the church of St. Peter and St. Paul.
How does Kroger's plan work?Show the checkout clerk your Food Lion card. Your number will be registered to the Church of St. Peter and St. Paul and ultimately the Church will start receiving a small percentage of your purchases.
To raise money for the church while you shop, you need a Kroger gift card that is tied to St. Peter and St. Paul. Cards are available in the church office. You will be asked for $5. This is because each gift card comes with $5 already stored in it.How do I use my Kroger gift card?You can immediately spend that $5 using the card. But, most people spend more than $5 each time they shop for groceries! To make sure that all your spending counts, put more money on the gift card.
How can I spend only a given amount?1) When you walk into Kroger with your $5 gift card, go to Customer Service and tell the clerk that you want to put, let’s say, $50 on the card. Customer Service will ask how you want to pay for the $50.
You can pay with cash, check or a credit card. In our example, when you finish this transaction you would have $55 on your gift card.
2) Next, do your shopping.
3) When you check out, use the gift cardCheckout deducts the total of groceries purchased from the amount on the gift card. For example, if the total comes to $20.00, the amount on the gift card would change from $55.00 to $35.00, which would be available to use the next time you shop.
4) When the amount on the gift card approaches zero, go back to Customer Service and put more money on the gift card.
How do I find out how much money is left on the card?To leave nothing (zero balance) on the gift card after each purchase, you must know the total transaction balance including discounts and sales tax. Then, put only the total amount you need on the card before you shop.
Are there any other things I should know about using Kroger gift cards?Your purchase receipt shows how much money is left on the gift card.
Yes!What if I'm checking out and there's not enough money on the gift card to cover my purchases?
- You can also add to your gift card at the checkout counter, but you must make sure that the clerk processes the addition to your gift card as a completely separate transaction from your grocery purchase transaction. If you’re using a credit card to increase the amount on the gift card, make sure you sign the credit card authorization form before the clerk begins ringing up your groceries.
- Gift card transactions are electronic. It takes at least a few seconds, and sometimes, depending on network traffic, a few minutes for the increase on the gift card to be available. So, even if you’re careful to separate the transactions at the checkout counter, you may not be able to use the
Don’t worry. The clerk will ask you to pay for the difference between the amount available on the card and the total cost of the groceries. Just don’t forget to load your card again. The church benefits only when you use the gift card.
