Church History
Our mission: To know Jesus Christ as Savoir and Lord and to lead others to Him. About Our ChurchWelcoming Christians of all denominational backgrounds, our church is a unique blend of a Lutheran and an Anglican congregation. We are part of the world-wide Anglican Communion and combine the strengths of Lutheran biblical theology with the liturgical practices of the Anglican tradition.
We are evangelical in our orientation and compassionate in our ministries to the needs of society and world missions. We believe the Bible is God's written word.
You are cordially invited to visit us and experience the joy of a Christ-centered congregation and a Christ-centered life. |
Church HistorySt. Paul Lutheran Church has a long history in Roanoke, Virginia. The church has worshiped in at least three buildings and survived fire and flood.
Without a pastor in 2005, the small St. Paul congregation was seeking the next step in ministry when an article in the Roanoke Times announced the formation of a traditional Anglican congregation in need of a place to worship. A merger was proposed and a willing pastor found. The Church of St. Peter and St. Paul is the result!
Liturgically, Anglicans and Lutherans are almost clones. But, hymns are slightly different and it is always a challenge to merge the vision and mission of two groups of Christians! Having navigated safely through year one's initially choppy waters, year two begins with positive expectations all around. A new excitement fills the air! God is clearly at work! To Him be all the glory! |
